Runaway Claim: I’m In Nigeria Attending Social Functions, Dino Melaye Says

SENATOR Dino Melaye (Kogi West) has dismissed claims that he has ran away from the country as untrue.

The lawmaker stated this while reacting to a report of an online news medium that he has fled the country.

The online news medium reported that while embarking on the self exile, Mr. Melaye “vowed not to return until there is a new government at the federal level as well as a new one in his home state of Kogi.”

Reacting, Melaye dismissed the report through his Twitter handle @dino_melaye.

“Those who know me will never believe the lies of Sahara Reporters about calling some senators. I’m in Nigeria and been attending social function across states. I have committed no offense so why should I run? They are after my life but God is my muscle,” he said.

Melaye also said he will never back down from speaking the truth when the need arises.

Investigation carried out by HEADLINE reveals that the Senator is in Ogun State.

The police had warned Melaye to appear before its Kogi State Command on March 28 as failure to do so will have him been declared wanted.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood accused Melaye of failing to honour several past invitations.

According to him, the senator is wanted on grounds of criminal offences of conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.

Responding, Melaye says he stands by his earlier position to appear before the police only in Abuja, as he believes his safety cannot be guaranteed in the state.
