RENO Omokri, an ex-presidential aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan has revealed why Nigerian Youths have refused to go into farming.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday called on Nigerian Youths to go into farming.

He stated this in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu.

The statement said President Buhari made the call at a meeting with the Chief Executive Officers of six American agricultural companies and their Nigerian counterparts in Washington DC.

“Our youths, the ones who have gone to school and even those that have not, should go to the farm, to earn respect for themselves.

“Agriculture is providing jobs for millions of our citizens and we are doing well towards the attainment of food security and jobs.

“The media may not appreciate the work we are doing but we will shock them by the success we are recording,” Buhari was quoted as saying.

The president had once described the country’s young population as illiterates, lazy and those who want freebies.

However, his call did not go down well for Mr Omokri who said the president has not stopped the indiscriminate killings of innocent Nigerians by herdsmen.

Omokri said Nigerian Youths were not farming because of Laziness but are afraid of herdsmen who might kill them in the process.

He stated this through his Twitter handle on Thursday.

“President Buhari asked Nigerian youths to go to the farm to earn his respect. When they go to farm and are killed by killer herdsmen, is it his condolence message they will earn?

“What a clueless President! Youths are not farming because of laziness. They are afraid of herdsmen!

“Buhari knows herdsmen are killing innocent Nigerians indiscriminately. He knows he has not done much to stop them. Yet, he asks youths to go to farm to earn respect!

“Does he want herdsmen to kill them? Has his son, Yusuf, earned respect by going to farm? Has he even done NYSC?,” Omokri queried.
