Kashamu’s Suspension From PDP Declared Illegal

THE suspension of Senator Buruji Kashamu from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared illegal.

Kashamu represents Ogun East Senatorial District of Ogun State at the National Assembly.

The PDP, before its national convention on December 9, 2017, had suspended Kashamu for allegedly indulging in anti-party activities.

Last December, a Federal High Court in Abuja had struck out a suit filed by Kashamu to prevent the PDP from taking disciplinary measures against him.

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, who heard the case, upheld the party- objection which challenged the competence and validity of the suit filed by the senator.

However, at a resumed hearing of the matter on Wednesday, Kashamu- counsel, Charles Ndukwe, informed the court that despite the pendency of the suit, the PDP went ahead to suspend the senator.

He then prayed for an order of court striking out or setting aside the suspension.

Delivering judgement, Justice Valentine Ashi of Abuja High Court said the suspension was carried out when a legal action had been filed in court describing the action of the party as contemptuous.

Consequently, the court held that the status quo must be maintained by parties in the matter until the suit was determined.

The court had fixed February 22 for hearing of the case.
