THE alarm raised by Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) that he was arrested at the international wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport has been confirmed to be true.
The lawmaker had in the earlier hours of Monday informed the public that he was arrested.
He made this known in short update posted on his social media accounts.
The police recently declared Melaye wanted after he was accused of supplying arms to some murder suspects, who allegedly implicated him.
The senator denied the allegations, which he describes as politically-motivated.
While notifying the public of his arrest, Melaye did not disclose which of the security agencies arrested him.
His tweet said he was on his way to Morocco for an official engagement when he was picked up. He accused the federal government of perfecting his arrest.
As at press time, the government is yet to react to the accusation.
Stepping forward to confirm Melaye’s arrest is the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).
Quoting the spokesman of the NIS, Mr. Sunday Jamea, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sen. Melaye was arrested by Immigration officials “based on instruction”.
Mr Jamea declined to provide further details when asked to.
